Mary Leakey's 100th Birthday

Google celebrates and recognizes the birthday of Mary Leakey, a British paleoanthropologist who passed away in 1996. Mary Leakey was married and worked closely together with her husband Louis Leakey. Louis Leakey was also a paleoanthropologist who taught the Leakey Angels: Jane Goodall, Dian Fossey, and  Birute Galikas.

She worked in the Olduvai Gorge in Afria, discovered the first Proconsul skull in 1959,  developed a system for classifying the stone tools found at Olduvai, and discovered the Laetoli footprint trail that was left in volcanic ash over 3 million years ago. She is very significant to her contributions to human history, anthropology, as well as being a female in the field when there were very little women in the field during her time.
